So sorry I haven't updated in so long. To be honest, I've just completely forgotten. I've recently gotten back into my Twitter so I thought, why not update my LJ while I'm at it.

What's been up with me? Well, since I last checked in, I've gotten a new, full time job, got promoted at said new job, tried to write another novel (my 4H project), failed at writing 4H, and started writing another new novel (my HD project).

I am currently working on HD and it is going really, really well. I was aiming for around 75,000 words and I am currently halfway there at 37,500 words. In terms of plot, I'm actually a little under halfway there. I still have another 2-3 chapters until I hit the midpoint, but progress is progress! A lot of that is thanks to Camp Nano this July which helped me add 20,000 to my previous word count. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep that momentum going and finish in the next month or two.

I'll get more into the details of the novel in another post, but for now, I just wanted to let you all know what I've been up to and to assure you that I am still alive and kicking.

Later!

So, I've fallen out of love with my "Taking Sides" novel. I'm sure I'll be back to it at some point but that point is not now. However, I am still deeply interested in novel writing and have actually come up with a new idea.

Well, actually the idea was originally intended to be part of a fanfiction so shhhh! I changed my mind and decided that it could easily be turned into a novel idea.

The book will be about werewolves, more specifically the entire thing will center on a werewolf pack. The reason why I decided that this idea would be better as a novel than a fanfic was due to the sheer amount of characters. If I did write it as a fanfic, it would have like 10 Original Characters and with that many OCs, it might as well be an Original Novel.

The story will center around a werewolf named Sophiel ('cause I like having strong female leads) and her pack. Warning: I will be completely making up my own type of pack hierarchy... 'cause I know nothing about wolves and their hierarchy. I figure some of it will come from wolves and then whatever I mess up will just be blamed on the human side of werewolves. ;)

I've only got half a page written, but considering I only thought of this yesterday, that's pretty okay. I've tentatively named it "Wolf Pack".

So, I just realized that I haven't mentioned anything too specific about my novel. I've been talking about it without actually talking about it. So let's start at the beginning:

I wanted to write a YA supernatural romance novel. Why? Because that's what I read and I love it so I decided to make my own. You may say that there are too many of these books already out there and you may be right, but I hope that mine is unique and special in a way that separates it from the others.

I started with the main character Bianca who is a typical teenage girl going through a really rough time. Something pretty traumatic happened to her and because of that, she's had to mature and become an adult too early. In doing so, she also lost a part of herself in the sense that she's become a pushover. She has lost the ability to stand up for herself and for what she wants.

Next is Bianca's best friend Lexi. She and Lexi are more like sisters than friends. They grew up together, but unfortunately, Lexi wasn't there when Bianca needed her the most. While Lexi may be there for her now, it might be too late. Lexi is outgoing, enthusiastic and charismatic but she's also insecure and jealous. She loves Bianca but also wishes that she could be her. But at the same time, she sees what Bianca's going through and knows that she doesn't really want Bianca's life. She tries to help her friend; tries to be there for her, but Bianca isn't letting her in.

Then there are the two love interests: Hayden and Thomas. They both transfer into the school at the same time. They know each other and hate each other and somehow manage to drag Bianca into their rivalry, which actually serves to help Bianca take her mind off her own life. However, there's more to their hatred than meets the eye. Both boys are hiding something and Bianca becomes entwined in their fight as she tries to discover their secrets.

Thoughts?

So, the other day I took a bit of a writing break because my computer was acting strange and I was terrified that if I opened my book file it would all mysteriously delete. But then my computer was been acting much better, so I decided to risk it.

I've completed about 1,000 words each day since then. I did get a bit distracted when it came to my attention that I had yet to watch Breaking Dawn Part 1 (which was epic!). I haven't done any writing today, but I might get some done later. But I have been doing a little writing on another project of mine, just to get my creative juices flowing again. I've been a little novel-ed out, to be honest.

Anyway, what I've accomplished (in the novel):
-fight scene between 2 main characters
-major explanation of a mystery which sets up the plot of the entire book
-end of Act I, beginning of Act II

Total Word Count: ~14,000 words
Total Page Count: 33 pages

So basically, forget everything I said yesterday. Okay, maybe not everything. Most everything. Half of everything?

This is what I wrote yesterday:
As I said, I wrote up to mid-way through Chapter 3 in "Taking Sides". However late last night I came to the realization that I hate everything that I've written so far. It was boring and too slowly paced. And just like that, 25 pages went down the drain.

Here's what I've decided:
-Despite the fact that I've always written in third person, this novel is meant to be written in first person.
-I need to flesh out more details on the other major characters - not just the main one.
-I would like to make the novel 500 pages or so.

So, in summation, I did not throw 25 pages out the window. I thought about the pacing and realized it was okay for how long I was intending the book to be. As for the boring part, I merely revised some of my language and added a bit of stuff in. Also, I tried writing in first person and I have come to the conclusion that while there is a time in every writer's life for experimentation with their style, whilst in the midst of writing a novel with the intention of publishing it is not one of those times... aka, I tried to write first person and failed epically so I went back to third. *shrugs* I'd like to go back and work on first person sometime, but not until after I finish this or I'll get confused.

As for what I accomplished today:
-a scene for a future chapter (probably chapter 5)
-a mental and emotional breakdown
-a bonding moment between mother and daughter
-set up an alibi for someone that they'll need in the next chapter
-wrote a total of about 5 pages, which is generally my daily average

Current Mood: tiredtired
Current Music: Brokenhearted - Karmin

So last November 2011 for Nanowrimo, I started working on a novel titled "Taking Sides". Unfortunately, November is also when classes get busy, so I was unable to make it past the Chapter 3. Now that I have more free time (aka unemployment sucks), I have taken it up again in the hopes of maybe getting it published.

I've been writing since I was a child. In elementary school, when we were given vocab words and told to use it in a sentence, all of my sentences combined to form a story. I was such a precocious little thing, wasn't I? lol. I started writing fanfiction when I was about 12 and have been doing it regularly ever since. Almost ten years later, I have finally decided to try and make my lifelong hobby into a career, or at least that's the idea.

Here's what I've done:
-Written out each of the four major characters and listed their Physical Characteristics, Personality Traits and any major Outside Influences that shape their reactions.
-Wrote out a plot summary
-Divided the plot summary into 3 Acts: Setup, Confrontation and Resolution.
-Picked out actors/actresses in order to more solidly personify my characters' personality and features

So, who wants to know more about my novel?
